The McLaughlin Way

At McLaughlin, our mission is to build lasting relationships with our customers that allows them to Relax and Appreciate their homes. In order to accomplish this goal we have aligned our business into two interdependent units, Construction Management and Property Services.  Our long-term approach of constructing custom homes and, subsequently, providing post construction property management and property maintenance for our customers and their homes demonstrates our willingness to develop strong and lasting relationships. In addition, this organizational alignment supports us in providing best in-class quality and service while properly caring for, maintaining, and improving our customer’s homes and experiences. As a result of these strong lasting relationships and properly maintained homes, it is no surprise that our primary source of new business is referrals from existing customers.  Below is a brief outline of what you can expect when working with The McLaughlin Team.

Step 1: Initial Consultation

When first meeting with potential customers our objective is to listen to and understand their initial plans and goals for their project. We use this information to tailor a construction plan that aligns with their goals. This meeting takes place in one of our two convenient office locations, West Jersey Avenue in Sea Isle City or Dune Drive in Avalon, NJ, depending on the customer's needs.  During this meeting we take our customers on tours of various in-progress and completed McLaughlin homes to convey our quality and craftsmanship and show them the various materials and styles available. At this point we take our customers design preferences and pair it to the appropriate premier architectural firms serving our markets and coordinate a meeting between the customer, the Architect and McLaughlin to begin design.

Step 2: Architectural Consultation

Once our customer has selected their architect for the project, we encourage them to develop a comprehensive list of wants and needs for their project.  This list is used in the initial meeting with the architect to drive design and help McLaughlin provide an initial cost estimate for the project. Our customers then work with us and the Architect to complete the final design. We believe that the best approach is for the customer, the Builder and Architect to align throughout all phases of the design and construction. In order to accomplish this, we accompany our customers in all architectural meetings. This service is provided, complimentary, for all of our customers requiring architectural services.  Our involvement in the architectural phase allows our customers to benefit from our practical design, construction and financial experience of building custom luxury homes.

Step 3: Budgeting & Value Engineering

The architectural design phase consists of the design and structural engineering. Throughout both paths of this phase, we assist our customer by providing insights into the various material costs, material options, and construction techniques to maximize their budget.  We provide our customers with a comprehensive list of the costs associated with certain elements of construction and alternative materials and/or techniques that can be used to control budgets without aesthetically changing the overall look and feel of the home.  Another benefit our customers receive is our ability to use our existing projects to showcase what their finished product will resemble.

Step 4: Preconstruction Checklists  

At this point we provide our customers with a detailed written proposal including all the specifics that will be included in each home.  Our objective is to meet our customers' goals by establishing a clear upfront scope and limit back end change orders. Our customers work with our in-house and trusted design partners for cabinetry, tile, flooring, plumbing & lighting fixtures, paint and any customer specific selections throughout the architectural phase of the project.  These preliminary design-specific meetings allow us to provide our customers with realistic allowances and streamline construction production. This, in turn, reduces change orders from the base contract and ensures that we meet our customers' deadlines.

Step 5: Construction Approach

We handle all aspects of the construction process from permits and demolition through move-in day.  We manage our home construction processes through the web based platform, BuilderTrend. This allows each customer to have a unique website for their project.  The secure website includes pictures of our customer’s project, status of all selection information and the daily work schedule for the duration of the project.  Our in-house selection specialists and project managers guide our customers through the entire construction process within this portal to keep all critical information in one location. Our customers have the ability to view progress and communicate directly with their team throughout the entire construction phase.

Step 6: Property Management

Upon completion of the home, we hold a property opening. During this meeting our customers review the final punch list, warranty and completed contract with our construction team. Our customers then complete a property operations tour with key subcontractors and their full-service Property Management Team to understand the important mechanical locations and basic operations. After the walk through we review the customer's Home Maintenance Package which include all aspects of routine maintenance such as plumbing opening and closing, HVAC maintenance and electrical maintenance, among other services.
